U.S. Trade Deficit Widened in August

By Harriet Torry and Eric Morath Oct. 5, 2018

WASHINGTON—The U.S. trade deficit widened in August, as a strong domestic economy boosted Americans’ purchases of foreign automobiles, industrial supplies and petroleum.

The foreign-trade gap in goods and services expanded 6.4% from the prior month to a seasonally adjusted $53.24 billion in August, the Commerce Department said Friday.

Trump's tariffs have already cost Ford $1B; now it's planning layoffs

Ironically, Ford may have to cut production of some models, potentially reducing U.S. jobs, as a result of China's tit-for-tat tariffs.

    by Paul A. Eisenstein / Oct.08.2018

Trump and Ford have been squaring off since well before the 2016 election, when then-presidential candidate originally threatened to impose hefty tariffs on vehicles Ford intended to start importing from a factory in Mexico. The carmaker eventually scrubbed that plan, but rather than return production to the U.S. it decided to move it to China.

Give them time, a better deal will come. China economy took a tremendous drop from the tariffs. To make up the loss if imports USA business either current or new can make up the difference. That means more job here, and more paid taxes here.
Tomlin is 3-5 in his last eight playoff games, 3-6 if you include the Super Bowl loss to the Packers. He has won a playoff game in just 4 of his 11 seasons, and most of those came early.

You know what? Yesterday I learned from a Chinese web that Verizon will have a big lay-off, 40,000. I google it, found it's an old news. Yet it seems not much people know it. Maybe they will let it out after mid term election. What a censorship. That's a big news.

Yes, unemployment rate is low. They changed the factor of formula to make good result. If the unemployment is that low, why Trump tries to seek more jobs? Think with your brain. The media pour the positive news on you but censor the bad one.

UN Report Says US is a “Shithole Country”
Instead of corporate media basically ignoring the UN report, there should be screaming headlines.
    byJohn M. Repp June 15, 2018

Philip Alston is the UN special rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights. He traveled to the United States last December to some of our most destitute communities such as Skid Row in LA, poor African American areas in the Alabama, impoverished coal communities in West Virginia and to Puerto Rico. He issued his report on June 1, 2018. It should be front page news.

But we also have 40 million citizens who live in poverty. Five million live in the absolute deprivation we usually associate with the developing world. Four in ten Americans are so broke that they could not cover an emergency expense of $400 without selling something or borrowing.

They changed the factor of formula years ago not during Trump administration.

Second, you're a fucking moron if you think the media is pouring on positive news. Every survey sees 90-95% negative news on Trump and almost no news on the economy at all.

Maybe one day you understand how federal government work while at same time you find out about real news.

    Highest in 7 months?

What was Obama's trade deficit the year he left office ( Jan 2017 )? About the same, I think.

Watch, China will cave a bit for fairer trade, the tariffs are killing them. If they don't you see more companies here picking up the slack, and plenty of other nations in line to trade with us.

France Finance Minister: Europe Must Become an ‘Empire’ to Compete with U.S.

France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has called for Europe to become an “empire” to compete with the United States after the country’s President Emmanuel Macron called for an EU army to defend against the NATO ally.

Adding that it would be a “peaceful empire,” the economics and finance minister touted the progressive government’s green credentials, saying that the European empire should “rel[y] on green growth. Neither China nor the U.S., who are leaving the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, are on this path.”

“It’s about Europe having to become a kind of empire, as China is. And how the U.S. is,"
